As I’m working with my four year old, I done some different games with her when it comes to reading. In last week’s blog, I talked about the Point and Read strategy. While I do that, I also play Seek & Spell. It’s like playing a game with your child. During the pre-school years, seek and find books are some of the funnest books for them. So it’s good to incorporate that when they’re reading too. Here’s how you do it:
As you’re pointing and reading ask your child to find a word that is repeated and ask him or her to point it out.
Remember, don’t pressure your child to find the word and spell it no matter how simple it is. This is meant to be a fun game to encourage your child to start reading.
